AGOGO Sentai

"The story of five savory rice pudding-addict maintaining world peace."

Created in 2005

"AGOGO Sentai" is a comic that captures the events and issues of my class and school during that time, occasionally incorporating current societal news. The story is a tribute to Japan's tokusatsu "Super Sentai series," with most characters being based on real-life individuals. As the author was still a junior high school student at the time, content from exams would sometimes be integrated into the storyline.

Fang-Yu savory rice pudding
All stories begin here. On the surface, it appears to be a rundown savory rice pudding store, with the owner's (Zhu’s) residence upstairs. Beneath the ground, however, lies their secret base, housing massive vehicles and a giant robot hangar.

Behind the scene
Everything originated from a performance assignment in a class, where groups of about ten students were tasked with presenting a stage play, with the script entirely left to the students' creativity. As a junior high school student with no prior experience in acting or stage production, we faced challenges from the very beginning. Ultimately, I decided to combine Zhu Ziqing's(朱自清) renowned prose" My Father's Back (背影)" along with elements of tokusatsu heroes, mystery, and traditional snacks, to create a play that the audience might seem to understand, yet still leave them puzzled.

On the other hand,  the store name "Fang-Yu savory rice pudding (方魷碗粿)" is derived from the surnames of two classmates, Fang(方) and Yu(尤), who chose this name for the store because they were uncertain about what roles they could play.
